Craig Smith has 4 point game, Sergei Kostitsyn gets a goal in his first game, Colton Sissons is a beast.
Hi Everyone, back for round two of Preds highlights from across the world, and the first one featuring Sergei Kostitsyn with the KHL squad Avangard Omsk. My apologies for being a day late on this one. Traditionally these will be posted on Monday but because of Canadian Thanksgiving, I give it to you on Tuesday. If you have comments or want to add a highlight or suggest another player/prospect to track, hit me up on twitter @CanadasPredsFan or in the comments! All the best, take care!
Craig Smith posts four points Saturday with KalPa
Predators young superstar Craig Smith powered through his first game in the SM-Liiga in Finland. In front of a sell out crowd of 4,298 people, he started off with a pretty bad giveaway leading to a goal and an early lead for Poleaxe. But he made up for it in the rest of the game recording two goals and two assists, all of them were very nice plays as well. The whole highlights video is worth watching as the SM-liiga can often display some beautiful open ice hockey. However points of interest are as follows: Bad Giveaway 1:14, Goal 1:40, Goal 2:17 Assist 2 50, 3:07. Again, all are definitely worth checking out. Smith is #51 in Black
Sergei Kostitsyn scores first goal and gets an assist in 7-3 loss
Kostitsyn graced the ice for the first time with his new KHL team Avangard Omsk on Monday night and contributed immediately with a goal and an assist. Playing on a line with past NHL star and current team captain Alexander Frolov, Kostitsyn was productive in the team’s losing effort. He scored a goal in the second period to bring the score to 3-2, and got an assist on the goal the brought the team back to 4-3, however it was all down hill from there for Avangard as the final score was a 7-3 loss.
Kostitsyn is #74 in white Check out: 2:21 for a weird goal off the goalies back (not SK), 4:12 for SK’s unspectacular goal – but he does put in the effort to get to the puck after the shot and sneak it in behind the goalie, 5:42 for Kostitsyn’s assist, which was much nicer than his goal.
Rough Week for Pekka Rinne
Our top goaltender had a rough go in Russia Land over the last seven days. Rinne played three games for Dinamo Minsk since last Monday and lost all three, allowing 9 Goals against, (GAA of 3) and netting (pun) an avg Sv% of .895 , which isn’t that bad for 3 losses and 9 goals. Minsk also made NHL news this week with their decision to play Evander Kane on the 3rd line. The Jets winger averaged 14 minutes per game during his first week with the team. Below is the video of Rinne’s 2-1 loss to Lokomotiv where Rinne earned a .92 SV% (embedded) Rinne is #32, the goaltender with the outlandishly unmatching pads. Goals at 0:05 (cross crease one timer) and 1:45 (brutal giveaway but nice finish). Attendance was 15056.
Additional Bonus Links: Spartak vs Dinamo Minsk, 4-1 loss, attendance of 1449 Watch Rinne stand on his head at 0:33 before getting scored on, Robbery at 1:39, Gets scored on at 1:45, again at 2:11 (weak), and then he gets worked on the last goal at 2:46. Minsk Defence really let him down.
Finally, Link for the 3-0 vs Torpedo, Attendance 12319 Cheeky goal at 1:23 just sneaks in, PowerPlay goal on a rebound at 2:06, Bad hit + game misconduct and a kerfuffle at 3:34, Shuts the door twice at 4:25 (The Rinne I know), another good save at 5:33, Some guy in Spandex and a cape at 6:35 plus some good looking ice girls, Holy wow what weird goal, 7:20 … seriously check that out. For what it’s worth, Rinne’s Defense was awful & the other goalie stood on his head all game.
Roman Josi Scores in SC Bern’s 5-1 win over Geneva
As you saw in last week’s post, Josi contributed two points in his first game with SC Bern in Switzerland’s National A League. Since then it has been a fighting battle for Bern, as they went on to lose the next two games by scores of 3-1, Josi was an overall of -3 in those two games. However they bounced back hard against Geneva with a 5-1 where Josi was +1 with a Power Play goal to his name.
Josi is #90 in black (Tavares is #91). 1:00 mark for Josi’s goal.
Prospect Brent Andrews gets game winner vs Seadogs
Andrews is the assistant captain to a very talented team: The Halifax Moosehead. Halifax outshot their opponents 21 – 7 over the last week. In Friday’s 4-3 win over the two-consecutive-year defending QMJHL champions, the Saint John Seadogs, Preds Prospect breaks out of the zone to get the game winning goal on a shorthanded breakaway.

Prospect Colton Sisson is the definition of insanity
Sisson had 3 goals, 5 assists in 3 games over the last week. On Wednesday the Kelowna Rockets romped the Vancouver Giants with a 7-0 win, in which Sisson and two goals and two assists. He then has a single goal in the Rockets 6-3 loss on Friday, and ended the week with 3 assists in a 7-5 effort over Prince George. Unfortunately WHL highlights are a bit difficult to find on Youtube, so here is a link to the video on their website.
Three Assists in 7-5 Win vs Prince George
Two Goals two assists Monster performance vs Vancouver (somewhat brutal commentary) (Assist at 0:45, Goal at 1:47, can’t find the other two points)
