Preds Players Highlights from across the world: Week 1

Hi all! A new feature I am going to try to remember to do over the next little while is post some Preds highlights from our players that are, you know, actually playing. Why? Because we are a big strong beautiful franchise who don’t need no lockout. Sorry about that … it’s Monday morning and felt persuaded to work that into the article. Hey! You know where it’s not Monday morning? Belarus, where Pekka Rinne made his first goaltending appearance in the KHL for Dinamo Minsk!

Here’s the video of Pekka Rinne earning his first win in the Minsk’s defeat of Atlant.

Rinne is the goalie playing in the Blue – Green an awkwardly unmatching Gold and white blocker/trapper/pads set. He let’s in a couple of goals including a ridiculous powerplay backhander (2:17) and a defensive breakdown coming from behind the net. But is solid through the 2nd and 3rd periods allowing his team to come back from a 2-0 deficit. It’s also worth checking out the very EA NHL 13-esque goal at 4:20.  Rinne stopped 21 shots for a .923 SV%. Rinne will be joined later this week by Winnipeg’s Evander Kane, who has also signed with the Minsk.

If you don’t want to watch the whole video, Pekka makes a nice recovery save at 2:08, 6:17, 6:44, 6:50. The first goal on Rinne is at 0:55 and the second is at 2:17.

ROMAN JOSI

Josi is playing for SC Bern in the Swiss league and is actually defensively paired with New York Islanders defensemen Mark Streit. Josi had a powerplay goal in the game, which was one of his four shots on net. HC Bern blanked HC Luango 5-0. This week John Tavares will join Josi with HC Bern.

Here is the video of Josi’s powerplay goal.

Brendan Leipsic, Colton Scissons – Preds Prospects Portland Winterhawks/Kelowna Rockets
Two Preds Prospects faced off in the WHL on Saturday. The Winterhawks featuring Bredan Leipsic played vs the Rockets who’s captain, Colton Sissons, is a Preds Prospect as well. The final score was 4-3 for the Rockets, with Sissons taking credit for two assists. However Leipsic played a big role in his team’s performance by scoring two power play goals. Check out all the highlights here.

Brent Andrews – Preds Prospect, Halifax Moosehead
Andrews has 2 goals, 2 assists in his season with the Halifax Moosehead. He is the assistant captain of the team and bagged a couple of points last Saturday in the towering defeat of the PEI rockets. They won 8-1 with Andrews getting a goal and an assist. Highlights here, with the goal coming at the video’s 1:17 mark.

That’s all for this week! If I’ve missed anything please do let me know by hitting me up at @CanadasPredsFan or in the comments. Join me next week where I will hopefully have done another round of highlights!
