Day one of training camp is in the books, but unfortunately, the news of the first injury of the 2013-14 season was announced. Thursday, goaltender and high-end prospect Magnus Hellberg suffered a lower-body-injury and is listed as day-to-day. This is unfortunate for Hellberg, 22, who is trying to impress and show he is an NHL-caliber goaltender.
Although head coach Barry Trotz has said Carter Hutton will be the backup this season to Pekka Rinne, the competitiveness to be second in the goalie depth chart is still present.
With Hellberg being injured, that leaves the Predators down a goalie for camp. No longer is that a problem as they have brought in Allen York, 24, to step in on a tryout agreement. York, an RPI graduate, played last season in the Columbus Blue Jackets' minor league system appearing in nineteen games for the AHL's Springfield Falcons and five for the ECHL's Evansville Icemen.
York will be on the silver team for camp, while Scott Darling has replaced Hellberg on the blue team, according to Kristopher Martel of The Predatorial.
