Felix Girard was the lone Preds prospect invited to the Team Canada 2014 World Juniors slection camp for the tournament beginning on December 26th. Girard was drafted by the Predators in the fourth round of the 2013 NHL draft and was also selected for the QMJHL all star team for the Subway super series.
Girard will be one of 15 forwards at the selection camp to be held in Toronto from the 12th to the 15th of December. He was pointless in his two games of the super series but did look effective. If I had to guess I would say that Girard is absolutely not shoe in for the team but he does have a respectable chance of being one of the 12 or 13 forwards selected
There can be some discussion as to whether or not Preds prospect Brendan Leipsic got a bit of a snub in the selections. Playing for the Portland Winterhawks in the WHL, Leipsic was invited to the summer development camp and he has 37 points in 23 games this season, but was not invited to selections camp.
Girard has 18 points in 25 games with the Baie Comeau Drakkar. Other notable invitees are Bo Horvat, Jonathan Drouin and Connor McDavid – a 16 year old who is being very very highly touted.
The World Juniors will be held in Sweden with Canada's first game on December 26th vs Canada vs Germany.
