Sergei Kostitsyn has been placed on unconditional waivers. This is usually the first step of the buyout process. Of course, this news comes in the midst of the Belarussian forward considering playing for Avangard Omsk in the KHL next season.
Kostitsyn's agent Don Meehan told Joshua Cooper of The Tennessean that there is a "good chance" his client signs with Avangard. Here is what Meehan emailed Josh:
“As it stands now, there is a good chance that he may go to the Kontinental Hockey League next year. We are in the process of determining this issue, but as I say, it is probably the likeliest option at this point.”
Kostitsyn has one-year, $3 million dollars remaining on his two-year, $6 million deal signed last summer.
Hal Gill cleared waivers today after being put on yesterday, according to TSN's Ryan Rishaug. After the Predators stated he would no longer be in the team's future plans, it will be up to them to buy out the 6'7" defenseman. Gill is in the last year of his two-year deal worth $4 million.
