Forward Nick Spaling and the Nashville Predators avoided the most dreadful negotiations for a new contract — arbitration. According to TSN Insider Darren Dreger, Spaling signed a one-year, $1.5 million contract. The 24-year-old's arbitration date was set for Thursday, July 25. He will turn 25 by the time the season begins.
Last season, Spaling totaled thirteen points (9g, 4a) in 47 games and had a -10 rating.
This news comes as a major surprise because it appeared that Spaling no longer had a place in the Nashville lineup due to all the veteran acquisitions and young prospects becoming NHL-ready. But apparently, there is. And this signing has just made training camp in September a whole lot more interesting.
