Spaling’s arbitration date set

The National Hockey League Players' Association announced the salary arbitration dates of fourteen players. So far, six skaters have avoided the stressful process by signing a contract with their respective teams. One Nashville Predator remains on the list, however, Nick Spaling.

Spaling's arbitration date is set for Thursday morning, July 25.

GM David Poile is left with a decision now — whether to trade, sign or release the 58th overall pick in the 2007 draft. As we all know, Poile is tired of losing a player without getting — or having the opportunity — of getting something in return. (Re: the Bobby Butler for TJ Brennan trade with the Florida Panthers). It is likely Spaling is traded somewhere because he will be of great use to another organization on the penalty-kill and as a depth center/left wing.

With all the latest acquisitions of Matt Cullen, Matt Hendricks, Eric Nystrom and Viktor Stalberg up front, there just isn't any room for Spaling on the 2013-14 squad.

Last season, the 24-year-old played in 47 games totaling 13 points (9g, 4a) and a -10 rating. By the time the regular season rolls around, Spaling will turn 25.
