Next up on the UFA Preview series is Derek Roy of the Vancouver Canucks. Once July 5 rolls around, if he is not re-signed by his current team, he is open to conversing and signing with any team in the league.
Derek Roy | C
5'9" | 184lbs
5/4/83; Age: 30
Signed in 2007: 6-years, $24 million; $4 million cap hit
Projected Earnings Next Season: $3.5 – 4.5 million
Derek Roy is an excellent playmaking center who can fill a top six role, shifting David Legwand to the third line. Last season, Roy had 21 assists in 42 games with the Dallas Stars and Vancouver Canucks, but only seven goals. Roy wasn't in the right situation in either of those cities, but Nashville may be a good place for him.
The 30-year old is most known for his time in Buffalo, wearing the "A" for the Sabres between the years of 2009-12. Roy is a leader and can help out the likes of Filip Forsberg, Craig Smith and Colin Wilson put goals on the board.
