Preds got scored on by 4 different first round draft picks, including two first overall picks, last night in their matchup against the Oilers, in a game that I like to dub the Devan Dubnyk Sweepstakes.
Nashville allowed a late goal in a closely fought first period, where Preds were the better team, which lead to their eventual demise. Rinne had an uncharacteristically bad performance, allowing 5 goals on 26 shots while the defensive core was more or less absent most of the night.
We follow up tomorrow night with our third back to back night in a seven game stretch. It's unclear who will start between Rinne and Hutton, but Rinne hasn't been super awesome in the last two games and could probably use a rest more than anything.
Some talking points
1- Stalberg was a healthy scratch and Eaves was back in the lineup. Stalberg hasn't really been present in the last few games. I mean physically he has been there, but only just.
2- Bourque scored is sixth goal of the season and his first goal since December 12th. He has a nine point month in November but has been library quiet since then.
3 – Preds still remain the only team in the NHL to have not conceded a short handed goal! But came somewhat close to ending last night as Edmonton scored 18 seconds after the conclusion of a Preds powerplay. That's actually an impressive stat line as only one team has 1 SHGA (COL) and only one team has 2 SHGA (VAN). All other teams are 3 shorthanded goals against or more. The leader? Edmonton, with 11 (!) Shortanded goals against.
4 – Rinne was pulled with 10 minutes remaining in the game, after allowing a 5th goal.
5 – Seeing Legwand on the Preds ESPN team page as our assist leader while wearing a red Wings jersey is actually super depressing.
6 – Playing legitimate offensive prospect Colton Sissons alongside Gaustad and Rich Clune is a terrible idea. Bring Nystrom down to that line and have a true grinding line while giving Sissons some teammates to play with. I know Nystrom has been decent offensively but the chemistry doesn't make any sense.
My Three Stars
1. Jordan Eberle – 2 Goals
2. Viktor Fasth – 29 Saves
