A pair of Patrik Berglund goals were enough to put the Preds in the passenger seat in their game against the central division leaders the St. Louis Blues. Berglund beat Rinne high over the glove on one attemps and then later put one through the fiver on a two on one. Tarasenky notched a third goal in the second period to make it three one. A greasy Nystrom goal was enough to spark some interest in a comeback, but the Predators couldn't get anything going in the third. It was Nystrom's first goal since his four goal game against Calgary.
Miller faced 31 shots but I wouldn't say he was overly challenged at any point in the game. The goal that did get passed him was a botched coverage that the Preds got a couple of additional whacks at any finally skied one over a pair of stacked pads .
There were a number of statistical reasons that this game was going to go poorly for the Preds. The Blues had an 18-0-2 record within their own division, with one shootout loss against Winnipeg in October and an OT loss to Dallas last week.
The Blues have also allowed the 3rd fewest goals in the league, which doesn't bode super well for the Preds who have only scored more than Vancouver and Buffalo.
Factor in that they were coming off a solid win over Chicago the night before and ran with Rinne on both occasions, and the odds were absolutely not forever in our favour.
Stalberg was 1 for 1 in the faceoff circle.
Preds play next on Tuesday against Edmonton, which is game one of another back to back meeting. They will need to travel to Vancouver for a second game on Wednesday.
