The Fangover: Preds come back, fall in SO to Panthers

After coming back from a 2 goal deficit, the Nashville Predators were defeated in a shootout by the Florida Panthers on Saturday night in Sunrise, Florida.

After Marcel Goc gave the Panthers a 4-2 lead early in the 3rd period, Seth Jones brought the Preds within one with a wrist shot for a goal with 5:08 remaining. With goaltender Marek Mazanec on the bench for the extra attacker, Paul Gaustad tapped home the equalizer in the final minute following a Shea Weber shot into a crowd of players in front of Panthers goaltender Tim Thomas.

Overtime solved nothing and the shootout went 6 rounds. David Legwand scored the Preds' first shootout goal of the year in the 2nd round before Jonathan Huberdeau answered for the Panthers. Shootout phenom Matt Hendricks completely faked out Thomas, went around him and put it off the post. In the 6th round, following a Gabriel Bourque attempt that was stopped by Thomas, Tomas Kopecky put it past Mazanec to win the game in the shootout.

Overall, the Preds outshot the Panthers 42-29. 8 different scorers tallied in this game. For the Preds, Craig Smith, Mike Fisher, Jones and Gaustad scored. For the Panthers, Brad Boyes, Kopecky, Sean Bergenheim and Goc tallied.

Next up, the Preds take on Carolina on Sunday evening.
