Today the Milwaukee Admirals of the American Hockey League signed four players to contracts. Two forwards, Vinny Saponari and Barry Almeida, defenseman Theo Ruth, and Goalie Scott Darling.
Saponari is an AHL newbie, making his debut only last year for the St. Johns IceCaps. He only played in seven games, scoring one goal and tallying an assist. He played two years at Boston University, where he scored 20 goals, tallied 27 dimes for a total of 47 points in 82 games. He than played his collegiate hockey in the Colonial Athletic Association out of Northeastern University in Boston. He played two seasons, totaling 68 games, while scoring 14 goals and assisting 38 for a total of 52 points.
Barry Almeida is also joining the Ads as a forward. He split his rookie season between the Hershey Bears and the Reading Royals of the ECHL. With the Bears, he put up six goals and eight assists for a total of 14 points in 35 games. With the Royals, he posted 24 points in 27 games, scoring 10 goals with 14 assists. He played his four years of college hockey at Boston College, where they won the national title in 2011-2012 during his senior year. That year, he finished second on the team with 22 goals and helped out with 18 assists.
Theo Ruth has spent the last three years with the Springfield Falcons of the AHL (Columbus Blue Jackets affiliate). The defenseman has scored two goals, had 14 assists in a total of 149 games for the Falcons. Before turning pro, Ruth played his college hockey at the University of Notre Dame, where he played with Ads forward Mark Van Guilder. Those two helped the Fighting Irish to the NCAA championship game in 2008, where they fell to Boston College.
The Ads signed Scott Darling today to an AHL contract. I have wrote about him previously, and that can be found here.
