Admirals Week in Review: Beat Barons, but Griffins Grinning

The Admirals beat the Oklahoma City Barons for the second straight time, but lost both contests over the weekend to the Grand Rapids Griffins.  After starting the season 6-2-2-0, the Admirals now sit at 12-7-4-1 and sixth in the Western Conference.

Magnus Hellberg had a solid night as he shut out the Barons, saving all 40 shots fired his way.  Austin Watson put the Admirals up for good and started the scoring, after he deflected a shot into the net by Miikka Salomaki on the powerplay at 11:35 in the first.  This turned out to be Watson's third game-winning goal in as many games.

Tony Bitetto, Colton Sissons, and Vinny Saponari also scored for the Ads, with their eighth, ninth, and first goals of the season, respectively.

On Friday night, Scott Darling got the start between the pipes for the Admirals, and had an eventful end of the first period.  He allowed three goals in the last five minutes of the first, giving the Griffins a 3-1 lead.

Sissons scored at 5:58 of the second to pull Milwaukee within one goal and make the score 3-2, until the Griffins put an empty netter in with five seconds to play in the game. Sissons' goal was his team leading tenth of the season.

Saturday night, the Admirals were hoping to fare better against the Griffins, but their hope went for naught.  The Ads got spanked, 5-0 with Hellberg earning the loss.  Cory Emmerton recorded four points and two goals to lead the Griffins.

The Admirals finished 0 for nine on the powerplay.  They are now 2-3 against the Griffins this season.
