The Milwaukee Admirals are up to sixth in the Western Conference standings, four points ahead of ninth place Oklahoma City. The addition of Calle Jarnkrok has really helped the offensive output of this team, which has scored 37 goals in their last seven games.
Last Wednesday the Admirals faced a bump in the road and saw their four game winning streak halted. The Iowa Wild got ahead 3-0 and never relinquished the lead.
Marek Mazanec got the start between the pipes for the Ads, and allowed all three goals in the first period on 10 shots. He only faced six shots the rest of the game.
Miikka Salomaki got the Ads on the board in the second period, with this crazy shot from the goal line.
Joe Piskula added his third of the season to cut Milwaukee's deficit to one, but that's as close as they came despite great pressure putting up 16 shots in the third.
This past Friday, the Rockford Icehogs were in town for another intense battle. The first period was crazy, with the score of 4-3 Milwaukee after the first 20 minutes.
Newcomer Francis Wathier scored his first as an Admiral at 1:05 to put the Addys up one.
After two Jeremy Morrin goals from Rockford, Milwaukee's Mark Van Guilder added his eleventh of the season at 11:06.
Rockford's Brad Mills netted one only two minutes later, but then Patrick Cehlin scored his fifth of the year after missing a game on the 8th due to a hit to the head on the 7th.
Vinny Saponari made it 4-3 Admirals at 17:15 of the first after a rebound from Taylor Beck and Austin Watson.
Entering the third period tied at four, Jarnkrok scored to give the Admirals the lead. Assists came from fellow Swede's Filip Forsberg and Cehlin.
Mills knotted the game back up at five after he beat Maznec on the PP 5:03 into the third. The game would remain scoreless through OT sending it into a shootout.
Mazanec came up big in the shootout, stopping all three attempts. Mathieu Tousignant, Beck, and Saponari all scored for the Admirals. The wonderful shootout highlights can be found here, and full game highlights can be found here.
The next night the Admirals continued to roll as they beat the San Antonio Rampage 4-2.
Jarnkrok got the scoring started off at 10:24 in the first.
Watson made it 2-1 Admirals in the second with this deflection.
Scott Darling started in goal for the Admirals, and stopped 25 of 27 shots on his way to the W. Full game highlights can be found here.
The Admirals head out on a four game road trip that will see them play the Hamilton Bulldogs, the Toronto Marlies, and the Utica Comets on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, before playing the Rochester Americans on the 26th.
