Admirals Week in Review: Solid Weekend

The Admirals had a successful weekend, gaining five points out of a possible six, and picked up two wins. Their record now sits at 14-7-5-1.

The San Antonio Rampage came to town and got a rude welcome from the Admirals.  Taylor Beck got the scoring started at 15:22 in the first to put the Ads up for good.  Vinny Saponari added his second goal of the season at 17:21 in the second for a two goal lead.

Filip Forsberg then got into the scoring column with two goals.  One in the second and one in the third.  He now has three goals with the Admirals this season.

After going 0 for nine in the previous game, the Admirals went three for five in the powerplay.

Scott Darling faced 34 shots and saved them all for his second shutout of the season.

The next night, the Admirals traveled to Rockford, Illinois to face the Icehogs. The Admirals faced an early hole, but came back firing.  Miikka Salomaki scored his sixth goal of the season at 19:10 of the second to tie the game up at one.

Captain Scott Ford put the Ads up for good just 52 seconds into the third period, and Simon Moser added an insurance goal at 8:24 on the powerplay.

Darling got the W, blocking 34 of 35 shots en route to improving his record to 5-1-0.

This was the Icehogs first loss in regulation when they have scored first (9-1-2-0). The Admirals evened up their road record at 6-6-2-1, and they pulled even into a second place tie with the Icehogs in the division with 33 points apiece.  Milwaukee has played five less games than Rockford so far this year.

The Admirals then went to Chicago to try and stretch their winning streak to three games, but fell short in overtime.

Beck knotted the game up at one after six minutes of a Wolves' 1-0 lead.  The game remained scoreless until Wolves' Keith Aucoin scored 27 seconds into OT for the game winning goal.

Magnus Hellberg started in net for the Ads and got the loss, putting his record at  4-11-1-1 with a .917 save percentage.

The admirals will enjoy Christmas eve and Christmas day off, before jumping right back into action at home against the Grand Rapids Griffins on the 26th.  Then the Charlotte Checkers come into town for a game on the 27th.  The Admirals then go out on a three game road trip that starts on Sunday the 29th in Iowa against the Wild.

Happy Holidays everybody, hope you all have a safe and memorable week.
