Week In Review: Pesky Ads are Pesky

Behind AHL Player of the Week Scott Darling, the Admirals picked up two out of three wins this past week.  They sit at 16-8-5-1 and in second place in the division behind the Grand Rapids Griffins.

The first place Griffins came to town a day after Christmas and were soundly beat by the Admirals 4-1.  Darling got the start in goal and pushed his winning streak to three games.

The game remained scoreless until the second period when Taylor Beck scored his eighth goal of the season at only 44 seconds.  Colton Sissons then added his team leading 11th goal of the year at 6:41 to make it 2-0.

Miikka Salomaki scored a sneaky goal behind the Griffins' defense on a breakaway pass from Kevin Henderson.

Darling allowed his only goal during the third period, but also recorded beautiful stops like this one, and this one.  With the Ads up 3-0, Simon Moser checked former Predator Jordin Tootoo, and it ended like this.

Henderson added his third goal of the season in the third period to ice it for the Admirals.  They beat the first place Griffins 4-1.  Full game highlights can be found here.

The next night the 13-17-0-1 Charlotte Checkers came into town, and scored a goal in every period to beat the Admirals 3-2.  Goalie Magnus Hellberg got the start, and continued to struggle, allowing three goals on only 26 shots.

Mark Van Guilder and Zach Budish both scored in the first period to take a 2-1 lead, but that was all for the Ads in the scoring department.

Darling was placed into the game after the Checkers pulled ahead, and stopped the three shots he faced.  This was the Admirals second loss in regulation at home all season.

On Sunday, Darling was back starting between the pipes in Iowa, as the Ads squared off with the last place Wild.  Although they were outshot 23 to 33, the Admirals went on to win in a 4-0 shutout fashion.  Darling's save percentage improved to 95.5% and is now 7-1-0 on the season.

Sissons and Tony Bitetto scored in the first period for the Admirals, and Vinny Saponari and Austin Watson added goals in the third period.  Milwaukee finished 2/5 on the powerplay.

Up next for the Ads is a trip to Cleveland, Ohio for Friday and Saturday matchups against the 15-12-0-3 Lake Erie Monsters.  Milwaukee then returns home on Monday the 6th, for a rematch against the Wild.

Have a safe and Happy New Year everybody!
