How to Beat the Goalie: Joey MacDonald
Joey MacDonald is going to be the backup goalie to Jimmy Howard in Game 1. MacDonald will only be in net if Howard has a bad game or an injury. If MacDonald was to start in a game, that would be a huge plus for the Nashville Predators because they play well against him. By the way, Joey MacDonald has never played in an NHL playoff game.
Joey MacDonald suffered a back injury March 17 against the San Jose Sharks. Now he is 100% and ready to go when needed. With the back injury MacDonald suffered, it had to mess around with his mechanics. A goalie has to use his back/shoulders to control his movement.
Watch for Joey MacDonald to stretch his back in Pre-Game Warm-Ups by bending back.
March 10, the Nashville Predators played Joey MacDonald at the Bridgestone Arena. In that game, MacDonald allowed three goals and stopped 17 of 20 shots. The last time he started and completed a game was March 14 where he got the loss and allowed four goals and stopped 20 of 24 shots against the Anaheim Ducks. MacDonald's record in his last five games is 1-4-0.
Here is how the Nashville Predators will score on Joey MacDonald in the series, if they face him.
- Joey MacDonald doesn't have the best stick-handling. Watch for the Predators to crash behind the net, hard.
- The Nashville Predators need to just throw things on net. Somehow the weirdest shots go into back of the net.
I will be updating this story if Joey MacDonald has a chance of playing. I will tweet it.
