Miikka Kiprusoff is having a rough year. He is trying to juggle hockey and his family, thus leaving the Calgary Flames a bit handcuffed when trying to trade him at the trade deadline. This season, the 36 year old is under the most scrutiny yet since the Calgary Flames haven't made the playoffs in four years. The loyal fans who wear the red in Alberta are starting to get impatient with their number one guy.

For the past few seasons, the Flames have been struggling, including their starting goaltender. Their lack of performance has ignited trade rumors throughout the organization involving their veterans including Kiprusoff. TSN has him featured on their trade deadline list of players on who could go.

At 36 years old, Kiprusoff is beginning to slow down physically and quite possibly mentally. Kipper can thank the Calgary organization for his wear down mentally due to the extreme amount of games he has been assigned for each season.

Kiprusoff is known to be a battler and never gives up on a play. If there is a mistake he makes, he will try his hardest to correct it before the puck gets by him. He doesn't play the upper part of the net well, however. Also, his movement isn't exactly up to par because his style is outdated.

Here is how to beat Miikka Kiprusoff:

  • Blocker side: Kiprusoff doesn't have a solid angle towards his right side. He leaves a gap open near side between his blocker and the post. A good shooter will be able to get a puck by.

  • Not very good mobile: Get Kipper in an uncomfortable position and force him to move.
