Nashville acquires Joe Piskula in a trade for Brian McGrattan

A couple of days after putting McGrattan on waivers, and a couple of weeks after sending McGrattan to the AHL for a conditioning assignment, the Nashville Predators have traded the winger to his former team the Calgary Flame in exchange for Joe Piskula. After being picked up on waivers, McGrattan played sparingly last season for the Preds, picking up only two assists in his thirty some appearances. This year the Winger had a discouraging season, seeing no ice time, even after the Jordin Tootoo trade. The veteran was finally placed in the minors earlier this week, which seemed like a long time coming. McGrattan will be missed in the dressing room. He was well liked by players and fans, but unfortunately could not crack the NHL roster.

Today the Preds organization announced that a trade had been made with the Calgary flames for Joe Piskula, a 28 year old defenseman who has split his time between Abbotsford and Calgary this year. Piskula went undrafted and was signed out of college by the Los Angeles Kings in 2006. He played five games in the NHL before being sent to the Manchester Monarchs. He spent most of his time in the AHL, but last season he did get five games with the Calgary flames.

In the AHL he had 6 goals and 47 assists prior to this season. This year he has 2 goals, 8 assits and 51 penalty minutes in 46 games with the heat. He is currently on a two way contract, but I wouldn't expect to see him with Nashville anytime soon. Then again, I didn't expect to see Rich Clune with the Preds either. If Piskula can impress the organization than me might get a chance in the NHL over the increasingly fatigued Hal Gill.

Piskula is 6'3 and 214 pounds.
